The Real Me: What My Skin Actually Looks Like (No Ring Light, No Filters)
If you’ve ever watched a makeup tutorial and thought, “Why doesn’t my makeup look like that?” you are not alone.
In today’s world of ring lights, soft focus, and editing tools, it’s getting harder and harder to tell what’s real and what’s enhanced.
So today, I did something different.
I filmed my morning skincare and makeup routine, showing you the difference that lighting and editing make.
And I give a few beauty tips and product suggestions along the way 😘

Ring Light vs. Real Life
Here’s the truth most people won’t say out loud: Lighting changes everything.
A ring light can:
Smooth the appearance of fine lines
Blur texture
Even out skin tone
Make makeup look more flawless than it actually is
I’m not against good lighting. I use it too.
But I also think it’s important that you see what things look like in real life, because that’s how you are seeing yourself in the mirror every day. And it's time to stop comparing ourselves to an unrealistic standard. 🙌🏼
Why This Matters (Especially for Women Over 50)
As we get older, our skin changes:
More texture
Fine lines
Dryness
Loss of elasticity
And when all we see online is perfectly lit, filtered skin, it can feel like we’re doing something wrong.
You’re not.
You’re just seeing edited reality. (Even the young TikTok'ers do it!)
My Real Morning Routine (Step-by-Step)
In the video, I walk you through exactly what I’m doing right now for my skin and makeup, mentioning lots of brands that may be new to you and a few that are tried-and-true.
💧 Skincare Focus
My priorities are:
Hydration that doesn't leave my skin looking greasy
Eye cream that also brightens my undereye area
Keeping things simple
💄 Makeup Approach
I focus on:
Light, buildable coverage (primer, foundation, concealer, powder, setting spray)
Strategic placement (especially in the eye area)
Accepting the quirks of age that I cannot change (without surgery 😉)

No editing software was used for these photos.

Let’s Talk About “Perfect” Skin
Here’s what I want you to take away from this:
There is no such thing as perfect skin in real life.
What you’re seeing online is often:
Controlled lighting
Angles
Editing
Filters (even subtle ones)
And when you remove those things?
You get texture. Wrinkles. Real skin.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to chase unrealistic standards created by the internet.
You just need to understand what’s real, what you can improve, and give yourself time and grace to figure out what's right for you.
